JB Trip - Jang Won Korean Restaurant

Jang Won... a restaurant introduced by the Boss of the Korean Mart in JB
Alfresco dinning is nice~ Sea View *although JB n sin border sea is not very nice but environment at night should be pretty good *
We choose to sit in.. too hot to have BBQ outside in the afternoon
Inner Restaurant.. authentic looking
Impressive 17 dishes of appetizers.. abit too much for 2 person -.-"
Steam egg (right) .. is JB restaurant style of "servicing" aka free dish!!!! actually Indonesia and other places also do this.. but not in sg.. -__-" On the left is babie's favourite... Chong Gook Jang (fermented bean soup) RM20++
My Kimbab ^^ RM 13++
Kimbab Portion is quite generous!!! comes with clear vege soup
Karl Bi Sal (Pork Rib Meat) BBQ RM 30++
This is niceee~~ but i prefer the kyung Bok Gung Korean BBQ Restaurant's BBQ!! they have more sides n add on for their BBQ wrap!! but if you are looking for more variety this Jang Won is great too ^^ best of all Jung Won offers 10+% if you say you are introduce by the Koreana Mart Boss (the name card on bottom right hand side below). Our bill came out to be RM 79.30 ... Only paid RM70!!!! Some name card of JB Korean restaurant we got from the Korean super mart.. they are all authentic restaurant open by Koreans in JB.. Can visit one!!!! *Click on pic to see address*

I just went to the Sodam Korean Restaurant with my wife and another couple, our first visit on 18/6/09. We ordered the Bulgogi (RM35/set), pork shoulder loin (RM20/set), beancurd seafood soup with rice (RM18/set), Bibimbab (the one with rice in a stone bowl, not the plastic bowl (RM23/set), and green tea (RM3/glass free refill). There were about 8 side dishes. Grilling of the meat are done by the waitress, immediately after they finish grilling they remove the grilling plate (not authentic), usually in a true Korean restaurant they should leave the meat on the grilling plate so it won't turn cold as the plate is still warm even if there's no fire burning beneath it. The taste of the meat are ok, i'd give 3.5 out of 5. The beancurd seafood soup is terrible, all beancurd and a few clams (they claim that to be seafood, what happen to the shrimps and fish?) I'd say this is definitely a 2 out of 5. The stone bowl bibimbab is worse, the rice is all wet and the portion is so small I can finish it in 5 bites, in other words the smallest I have seen in any restaurants ever, it's also a bit salty, guess that's to cover how bad the cook's skill really is, I'd give this dish a 1 out of 5. The side dishes can be refill as well but after two rounds the waiters/waitresses just turn blind and deaf as they do not want to give you any more refill for the side dishes, again this is bad service for a Korean restaurant. I have been to Korean restaurants in Korea, Indonesia, US, and China all will keep providing the side dishes no matter what. When we asked for the bill and feedback to the cashier she told as that the side dish have ran out, what a crap excuse! The customer next to us are Koreans and they keep getting more and more side dishes and the service provided to them are better, even the boss of the restaurant is attending to them personally. My advise, if you're not a Korean don't go there as they give different grade service to different people and as you can see they are quite stingy with their side dishes. I'm not raising a racial issue here but rather a service and food quality issue so do not get me wrong, I'm sure there are still very good Korean service out there which provide equal service to all types of customers, but just not Sodam! I will not visit this place again as a paying customer as I believe I deserve better services and better food.

Well I don't know what to say, Strawberry Sobert, either you look Korean or I happen to be unlucky (which I really don't think so).

I forgot to add last time that the white rice is RM5 per bowl (metal bowl) and the bowl is the regular size Korean bowl which is actually small. Not even a 5-star hotel would charge such a ridiculous price for a bowl of rice.

I haven't tried that one you mentioned, it's behind Leisure Mall Pelangi right? But I guess with your recommendation could give it a try.

There is a new Korean restaurant in Pelangi, it's a corner shophouse facing Leisure Mall Pelangi, it's on the road where Shell and Caltex are, you can't miss it if you have pass by that road. I haven't try it yet but a friend has and say it's good so I will give that a try also.

You can't compare Sg with JB, the standard is different. KL got lots of nice Korean restaurants. I tried one at Subang USJ, the food is great and service is also not bad, price is reasonable and I'm sure it's cheaper than Sg.

the reason beinging.. maybe my hubby is a kr ... probably that's why??

RM5 for white rice is !!!!!!!!!! the other restaurant i recommend even have service dish (which they dun do it in sg) .. i think they gave us steam egg .. cant remember.

HAHA i cant understand malaysia road.. i will ask mu hub to bring me next time we go JB! :)

Well that explains it. Too bad I don't know any Korean here in JB, if it's Indonesia, Korea, or US I don't have that problem. But serious I think it's just this particular restaurant, perhaps the boss have no idea what is "customer service".

By the way if you are intested in Japanese restaurant in JB, there's one to be recommended, Nijumaru, it's at Permas. Reservation is recommended so that you don't need to wait for a table, especially during weekends and dinner time.
